Bathroom Tile Formula

Bathroom Area

Area = Length × Width

Tile Area

Tile Area = Tile Length × Tile Width

Tiles Required

Tiles Required = Bathroom Area ÷ Tile Area

Total Tiles Including Waste

Total Tiles = Tiles Required × (1 + Waste Percentage)

Always round the result up to the nearest whole tile.

Example Calculation

Suppose your bathroom floor measures:

  • Length: 10 ft
  • Width: 8 ft

Bathroom Area:

10 × 8 = 80 sq ft

Tile Size:

12 × 12 inches

One tile covers:

1 sq ft

Without waste:

80 ÷ 1 = 80 tiles

Add 10% waste:

80 × 1.10 = 88 tiles

You should purchase 88 tiles.

Why Add Extra Tiles?

Adding extra tiles helps cover:

  • Cutting around corners
  • Broken tiles
  • Future repairs
  • Pattern matching
  • Installation mistakes
